AN
up-and-coming young band almost had their hopes of fame and fortune
dashed by thieves who stole more than £4,000 worth of their equipment. The
expensive PA system and speakers, lighting rig, guitar amps, effects
pedals and microphones belonging to Morecambe rock act The Bottlenecks
were all stolen from the back of the band's van. The
young band - who on the verge of breaking into the big-time with a full
UK tour lined-up, a new management deal and major record company
interest -feared that without the equipment they would have to cancel
shows and let their fans down. But
luckily a friend was able to pitch in and save the day, offering to pay
for new equipment an his credit card and allow the band to pay him back "Luckily
we've not had to cancel any gigs" said lead guitarist Paul Mayors. "But
we are going to have to do some cover gigs to help pay off the debt and
we were trying to get away from doing that sort of show and concentrate
on doing our own material. "it
has set us back in that regard but it could have been much worse." The
band's announcement that no gigs will be cancelled is good news for
local fans who have been looking forward to a visit by the Bottlenecks
to Our Lady's Catholic High School for a fundraising
show next
Friday, September 20. -The gig will go ahead as planned, starting at 8pm, and all money raised on the night will go towards the building of a new sports complex at the school. |
