Band aid for troubled Co-op

ALL GIRL band, Angelica, presented a cheque for £1,111 to Lancaster Musicians' Co-op this week.

The money was raised from a three-day music festival organised by the band, that sought to raise the awareness of the music co-op.

The cheque will help the co-op maintain and improve its facilities.

Hilton Dawson " called a public meeting last night, Thursday, to discuss proposals for the Lancaster  Corridor North area and the implications for local businesses, organisations and the Musicians' Co-op.   Mr Dawson said: "The music co-op is a vital resource and frankly just as much a cultural treasure as The Dukes or the City Museum. Hopefully, this public meeting will assist with a massive public campaign to ensure the future of the co-op and to promote a use of this whole site in the best interests of the community."

A night of cheerful, tuneful jazz has been organised to raise funds for the Musicians' Co-op.

Three popular local bands will join forces at the Gregson Centre in Lancaster on Wednesday, October 23.

The line-up includes the New Riverside Jazz Band, the Bob Moffatt Quartet and the Sue Parish Allstars.

Said one of the organisers: "We want to show our support for the Musicians' Co-op. It's a vital part of Lancaster's amazing music scene."

Tickets for the event, which starts at 8pm are priced at £5, (concessions £3), with all proceeds going to the co-op.
