Lancaster Guardian 27/9/02 Don't take our music away

I am saddened and appalled to learn of the threat to the future of Lancaster's music Co-op.

Although I am currently living in the States, as a native of Lancaster., I feel very angry at the prospect of the town losing this vital resource.

Music is what makes Lancaster such a cultured and vibrant city. PIease don't let Lancaster become like many other dreary towns that have nothing to offer, and nothing to draw in visitors.

If it wasn't for the Co-op, many of the bands that play live in the area and venues further afield, simply wouldn't be able to exist.

The co-op is the core of the city's music scene; it provides an affordable place to rehearse, gives young people a focus, and produces musicians who give many, many people pleasure when they hear the bands play at local venues and festivals. If the city allows the Co-op to be torn down, it is essentially ripping out the heart of the town.

Keep Lancaster ALIVE.

I am very proud of Lancaster. and its cultural and music scene. I hope when I return home, I don't find it just like much of America - paved over into a car park or a supermarket.
